How Do We Choose Our Conference Locations?

CUPA-HR is a non-partisan organization with members in all 50 states and abroad. We choose our conference locations years in advance. In fact, we contracted with Disney Coronado Springs in 2018 for our 2020 conference. When that contract was cancelled due to COVID-19, we moved the contract to our next available annual conference date, which was 2024.

When choosing a conference location, we use a number of factors, including cost for participants and CUPA-HR and ease of access to the city and host hotel. We also contract with facilities that are ADA accessible, offer sufficient hotel rooms for our event, and meet the unique space requirements that enable us to create a memorable, engaging attendee experience.

Our site selection is also guided by our strategic priorities, including our commitment to “build and foster a diverse, inclusive community that connects and engages higher ed HR professionals with each other, with other leaders and with the work of the association,” and our values: community and belonging, innovation, service excellence and integrity.

For many years, we have advocated the importance of creating and sustaining a higher education culture that welcomes, learns from and celebrates differences among people. We have also been very intentional in moving from talk to action by creating and curating practical resources and programming. This commitment is core to who we are and is emphasized and celebrated during every CUPA-HR in-person event.

Thanks for all the ways you lead and support our colleges and universities, and our students, staff and faculty. We look forward to creating a welcoming, safe, celebratory 2024 Annual Conference focused on current and emerging challenges for higher education and higher education HR leaders!
